To access the ExamForm Node Global Configuration settings tab, click an ExamForm (assessment) node on the Delivery Configuration Tool page - the tab is selected by default in the right pane.

This tab includes the various settings as detailed below.

  1.  Font face, Font size, and Background color

    The font face, size, and background color for Question Stem and Answer Options can be specified from the Global Configuration tab of the ExamForm node on the Delivery Configuration Tool page. These control the font settings of the item text as it appears in Exam Preview. These two settings override the font settings of only that item text for which the font settings have not been manually changed while creating or modifying the item. Thus they apply to only the item text with default font settings.

    Also, if these settings are left untouched at default, then these default font settings (default font face Tahoma and size 9) are not applied to the item text. In this case, the item text retains the font settings applied while creating or modifying the item.

    The font information is passed on to Preview via the Itempool.xml of the QTI Package using the HTML tags <fontface>, <fontsize>, and <background_color>.

    The text "This text has default font settings" from the Question Stem and Answer Options is displayed in Exam Preview below with the background color, font face, and font size specified on the Global Configuration tab because its attributes were left unmodified by default. Note that the rest of the text, which had modified font, size, and color, was not affected by the settings from the Global Configuration tab (except the background color, which was left untouched by default).

    In the above example, we used an item in an exam rorm as shown below in the Write Question page below:

    Notice that the background color is white (default) and the font of the text "This is a color text" is also left to default. Changes are made to the attributes of the rest of the text in the Question Stem and Answer Options.

    The item preview on the Delivery Configuration Tool page also appears true to how it appears in the Rich Text editor on the Write Question or Modify Question page.

    However, the settings on the Global Configuration tab could override the default font settings and the item appears as below.

  2.  Mathml Export Type

    There are two ways to send Mathml equations to Pearson VUE Player (PVP). This can be achieved from the Global Configuration settings of the exam form on the Delivery Configuration Tool page.

    You can select one of the two settings in the drop-down list for Mathml Export Type:

    Equation: The mathematical equation is passed to the PVP as a string of characters representing the equation.

    Image: The mathematical equation is converted to a .JPG image and passed to the PVP. The Itempool.xml contains a reference to this image instead of a string of characters representing the equation.

    The Itempool.xml file contains different data, depending on what type Mathml Export Type setting is chosen.

    The Itempool.xml appears similar to the following example if the Mathml Export Type is set to Equation. The mathematical functions such as sin can be seen.

    The Itempool.xml appears similar to the following example if the MathML Export Type is selected as Image. The MathML data is passed to PVP as a .JPG image, which is also contained in the QTI Package archive.

    An example of a MathML image is displayed below:

    Icon
    Although the resultant view for a candidate is the same, the mathematical formulas and information passed to PVP is editable only if the MathML Export Type is selected as Equation before QTI export.
  3.  Apostrophe

    When content that contains left and right single quotes is pasted into a Rich Text Editor from Microsoft Word, the content does not display nicely in QTI because the Athena test driver wraps the content containing quotes mid-word.

    For example, Don't would wrap as follows:

    Don'

    t

    The Apostrophe feature allows users to convert left and right single quote characters back to regular apostrophes when generating QTI so the mid-word wrapping does not occur.

  4.  Export Default Language Items As Exhibits

    For an exam form with a language code other than the default language code, this setting also exports the default Language items, in addition to their translated versions included in the exam form. The Check to Export check box is selected by default.

    When this check box is selected, settings for font face and size become visible. These control the font face and size of the default language item as it appears in the Pearson VUE Player. These two settings override the font settings of only that item text for which the font settings have not been manually changed while creating or modifying the item. Thus they apply to only the item text having default font settings.

    Also, if these settings are left untouched at default, then these default font settings (font face Tahoma and size 9) are not applied to the item text. In this case, the item text retains the font settings applied while creating or modifying the item.

    In addition to the items in the exam form, the default language items are also listed in the Itempool.xml file. The font information is passed on to the Pearson VUE Player via the Itempool.xml of the QTI Package using the HTML tags <fontface> and <fontsize>.

    In the Pearson VUE Player, while the translated item is displayed by default, the default language code item can be accessed by a candidate by clicking the Click For Translation button as shown below. The settings affect only the default font settings.

    The screenshot below shows that the settings for the item text font are retained when the settings are left at default.

  5.  Export Objectives

    This setting exports Blueprint IDs of the items used in the exam form. This check box is selected by default with Use system generated objective idents selected, therefore the system generated objective idents are exported by default. Users can alternately select Use blueprint ID for objective idents. When blueprint IDs are selected, the ident is listed as the blueprint level.

    The Blueprint ID of an item is visible in the Itempool.xml file in the <objectives…   /objectives> section above the item.

  6.  Export Question Enemies

    When this setting is selected, the item enemy in the metadata field of items included in the exam form are also exported to the Itempool.xml and are listed in the metadata section of the item in the file.

    This setting is effective only when the exam form contains enemy items.
  7.  Export Revision Code

    This setting allows you to decide how the Revision Code should be exported in the Itempool.xml file.

    There are two radio button settings to choose from when this check box is enabled.

    Selecting Append in item ident appends the Revision Code to the Question ID and lists as such against item ident. You can choose either period or underscore as the delimiter to separate the Question ID and the Revision ID.

    Selecting Include as Item’s version attribute mentions the Revision Code separately as a version number, rather than appending it to the item ident.

  8.  Export Min/Max Values For Multi Choice Items

    This setting serves to allow the export of minimum and maximum values for items of MCQ Multiple Correct Options type to the QTI Package. These values control the maximum number of Answer Options that a candidate can mark for such item types.

    When this check box is selected and the Weightage selection is Default or Item, the setting is exported for the particular item types into the Itempool.xml file of the QTI export as shown below for an example when the item has 2 correct Answer Options:

    <render_choice minnumber="2" maxnumber="2">

               …….

    </render_choice>

    When this check box is selected and the Weightage selection on the item is Option, the setting is exported for the particular item types into the Itempool.xml file of the QTI export as shown below for an example when the item has 2 correct Answer Options:

    <render_choice maxnumber="2">

               …….

    </render_choice>

    The candidate is not allowed to choose more answer Options than the total number of correct Options and a warning pop-up appears when the Export Min/Max Value For Multi Choice Items setting is selected.

    The candidate also is not allowed to choose more answer Options than the total number of correct Options and the above warning pop-up appears when the Export Min/Max Value For Multi Choice Items setting is not selected but the Weightage selection on the Question is set to Option.
