Note title Translation of Items - which method to use?
The Translate and Translate Side by Side buttons both allow translation There are two methods for translating items, one via the SDL Trados translation software accessed using the Translate button on the Search Questions page, and one via side by side translation on the Develop Questions → Translate → Translate Questions page. Users must be assigned the Translate permission, and they must be given a Translate assignment to translate the item to a specific language using side by side translation.
Note: The translate side by side functionality was moved from the Search Questions page to the to the Develop Questions → Translate → Translate Questions page in the 1909 release.
The Translate button on the Search Questions page allows translation of selected items from one language to another. The difference between the two is that the Translate button exports the selected items to be translated using SDL Trados translation software, while the Translate Side by Side button allows you to translate right within the ExamDeveloper application. The advantage of side by side translation is that you are not required to import or export anything for translation and also do not require any additional translation software. The advantage of the SDL Trados method is that it is possible to store and use translation memories. Translation memories are pairs of segments of translated text, which are stored when translation is made the first time, and then can be reused as a whole when the same block of text appears for translation.
Click Item Translation using SDL Trados Studio to learn more about the Translate button function or click .
The Translate Side by Side option allows users with the Translate permission and a Translate assignment to translate right within the ExamDeveloper application. The advantage of side by side translation is that you are not required to import or export anything for translation and also do not require any additional translation software. Users are responsible for entering accurately translated content directly into the ExamDeveloper user interface.
