  1. Click the Shape menu and select the shape you wish to draw on the image.
  2. Click and drag the mouse to draw an ellipse or rectangle.

    To draw a polygon, click on the canvas where you want to start drawing the shape.

    Move the mouse pointer to another spot on the canvas and click. A single line is drawn.

    Move the mouse pointer to another spot on the canvas and click. A second line is drawn that is connected to the first line.

    Continue to move the mouse and click until all the desired lines are drawn.

    Double-click to complete the polygon. When you double-click, ExamDeveloper draws a line from the point on the canvas where you double-clicked to the starting point of the polygon.

    After drawing a polygon, if you want to select an existing shape on the canvas, click the Shape → Select menu option. This deactivates the polygon drawing menu so you can select any of the shapes that have been drawn.

    Warning

    Shapes must be drawn within the bounds of the image. You are allowed to draw shapes outside the image, but you are prevented from submitting the item if shapes fall outside the image boundaries.

    You cannot overlap shapes when drawing them, and you cannot drag/move a shape over another shape.

    You are prevented from intersecting lines when drawing a polygon in a Point and Click item type.



  3. To move a shape: Click on the shape (the edit points for the shape are now visible as white boxes). Balance the mouse pointer anywhere on the shape. The mouse changes to a four headed arrow . Click and drag the shape to another location on the image.
  4. To resize a shape: Click on the shape. Balance the mouse pointer over an edit point (the mouse changes to a double headed arrow  when balanced over a boundary point) and click and drag.
  5. To maintain the aspect ratio for rectangle or ellipse when resizing the shape: Balance the mouse pointer over an edit point (the mouse changes to a double headed arrow  when balanced over a boundary point), hold the Shift key on the keyboard, and click and drag.
  6. To change the shape of a polygon: Balance the mouse pointer over an edit point (the mouse changes to a double headed arrow  when balanced over a boundary point) and click and drag.

  7. To select multiple shapes: Click on a shape. Hold the Ctrl key on the keyboard and click additional shapes. You may want to delete multiple shapes. Selecting them all at once and then delete them. 
    Note: you are not able to move multiple shapes at the same time. You must move each shape individually.
  8. To delete a shape: Click on a shape. Click the Delete  icon or hit the Delete key on the keyboard.
  9. Replace the background image: Click the Select/Upload Image button. Retrieve or Upload Assets, attach the new asset.

    Note: Be aware that if shapes have been added to the image on the canvas editor, the shapes remain in place when you swap the background image. If the first image was large with shapes outside the standard viewing area of the canvas and you replace the image with a smaller image that fits within the standard canvas viewing area, the shapes remain in place. You must use the scroll bars to locate the shapes and move them within the image boundaries or delete and replace them prior to submitting the item.


Save the Item

You have several options to Save the item.

  1. Click the Add Question to Case button save the item and create a new case. The item is automatically attached to the case. Only users with permission to create cases will see this button.
  2. Click the Save button. The item is saved and the item is checked-out preventing other users from making edits to the item. You remain on the Write Question page where further edits can be made to the item.
  3. Click the Preview button. Changes to the item are saved, the item is checked-out, and the item is opened in the Preview window. Only users with permission to preview items will see this button.
  4. To save an incomplete item, click Save and Exit. The item is saved in a Draft state and checked-in so any user with access to the item may make edits to the item. It is visible in the Draft/Returned Questions tab of the Project Writing Summary page.
  5. To submit the item for review, click Submit. The item is saved and checked in so any users with access to the item may make edits to the item. The item is advanced to the next reviewer in the list or to the next stage in the workflow.

    The following validations are performed on a Point & Click item type:

    Save

      • Empty Question stem: The question stem cannot be empty.

    Preview

      • Empty Question stem: The question stem cannot be empty.
      • No background image: Select a background image and define at least one shape.

    Submit

      • Empty Question stem: The question stem cannot be empty.
      • No background image: Select a background image and define at least one shape.
      • No shapes drawn with shape labels defined: You have chosen to use option 'A, B' but have not created a corresponding shape on the editor. Add a shape or remove the label.Number of shapes on canvas do not match the number of labelsDefine at least one shape.
      • More labels defined than shapes on the canvas: You have chosen to use option 'C, D' but have not created a corresponding shape on the editor. Add a shape or remove the label.
      • No shapes drawn: Define at least one shape.
      • Number of labels in the item are less than the number of shapes drawn More shapes on the canvas than labels defined: You have chosen to create a shape 'C, D' but have not created a corresponding label in the question. Add a label or remove the shape.
      • Shapes are drawn outside the boundaries of the background image: The following shapes fall outside the bounds of the image. Relocate them within the image bounds. Shapes B, D.
      • Empty labels in the item with corresponding shape drawn on the canvas: You have created a shape in the editor for "A, B, C, D" but you did not specify a label. Add a label or remove the shape.
