Enhancements to references

Available from

1803 (approximately March 2018)

Rollout pace

Gradual rollout - users will have visibility over approximately 2 - 3 releases

In order to introduce clearer, more granular control over references, we are enhancing the way they are controlled through the project configuration and allowing managers to determine whether the reference belongs to the item, key or distracter. This will result in the following changes:

  • It will be possible for a project manager to add references to the project directly via the project configuration (currently it’s only possible to add on the write / modify question pages)

  • The existing project configuration settings that control if a writer or reviewer can add new references to the project will be improved and moved from the Questions tab to the References tab.

  • A manager will be able to further configure their project to allow users to optionally set references against a specific key or distracter on a question.

Min/Max Responses

Available from

1803 (approximately March 2018)

Rollout pace

Full rollout - users will have immediate visibility as a result of upgrade

Some clients wish to turn on specialized minimum and maximum responses  allowed on multiple select items (i.e. Point and Click or Multiple Choice/Multiple Select). The min/max values follow the pattern of creating Advanced Properties that can be set as a default for a client, and then allowing the client to decide if authors/reviewers can change it on a given item.

Today, the QTI defaults the min/max to the # correct. Tomorrow, users can choose 0, or # correct.

Case publish retirement

Available from

1804 (approximately April 2018)

Rollout pace

Full rollout - users will have immediate visibility as a result of upgrade

Publishing in ExamDeveloper today to ‘lock-in’ revisions of question content takes several steps. In order to publish an exam, a user must ensure that:

  • Questions and assets are in a Completed state

  • Cases are published

  • Sections are published

This is difficult and time consuming to manage for those who have a mixture of different objects on their exam, and so we intend to begin streamlining the publishing process in ExamDeveloper, by removing the ability to publish a case:

  • The ability to see the case status (draft or published) will be removed.

  • It will no longer be possible to publish or unpublish a case.

  • It will no longer be necessary to publish a case in order to publish a section or exam

  • All existing published cases will be unpublished:

    • This will make those cases, and questions on those cases, editable by Writers.

    • Existing sections and exams that are published will continue to have the case content ‘locked-in’.

    • Existing sections and exams that are not published will use the latest case content.

Removal of old reports from ExamDeveloper

Available from

1804 (approximately April 2018)

Rollout pace

Gradual rollout - users will have visibility over several releases

In order to ensure reporting is more useful in ExamDeveloper in the future, we are looking to streamline the ‘additional reports’ available to Managers. A number of these were created to serve a specific purpose many years ago and either perform poorly or are not believed to be used by anyone anymore. The following reports are planned for removal from the application:

In the Manage -> Reports area, on the Additional Reports tab:

  • Blueprint Distribution Exam

  • *Exam Answer Key

  • *Exam Default Statistics

  • Exam Item Statistics

  • *Form level Item Statistics

  • Item Counts By Blueprint

  • Item Statistics Report

  • No of Graphics

  • Outline Items

  • Pearson Exam Question Details

  • Question Usage Statistics

  • Reviewer Comments Report

  • *User Activity

  • Validation Data Report

In the Manage -> Reports and Manage Item Bank -> Reports areas, on the Exam forms tab:

  • SMT IQT Item Entry Template

In the Manage -> Reports and Manage Item Bank -> Reports areas, on the Project/Item Bank tabs:

  • Reference Report

In the Manage -> Reports and Manage Item Bank -> Reports areas, on the Statistics tab:

  • Candidate Scores

  • Statistics Summary

Please note that if you are using these reports, please reach out to ExamDeveloper@pearson.com in the first instance, so that we can set up some time to understand your needs and explore how we might best serve them.

*Data will be included in the Custom Report

Retirement of candidate data import and report

Available from

1804 (approximately April 2018)

Rollout pace

Full rollout - users will have immediate visibility as a result of upgrade

The examinee data import and candidate scores report available to Project Managers has only ever supported the loading of data for up to 50 candidates, severely restricting its value and use. As a result, we intend to remove this functionality from the application.

  • The Candidate Scores report available to Project Managers will be removed

  • The Examinee Data import that feeds the above report will be removed

  • Any candidate data that has been loaded into ExamDeveloper using the Examinee Data import in the past will be deleted permanently from the database, as it will no longer serve any function in the application.

Ability to Search on Manage Item Bank - Add Content - Questions

Available from

1804 (approximately April 2018)

Rollout pace

Full rollout - users will have immediate visibility as a result of upgrade

Add/Remove content feature available through Manage Item Bank screen, does not allow to filter questions fulfilling certain criteria, restricting its use. As a result, we intend to bring search functionality for Questions like it exists for Cases.

  • The change will make it possible to search for Questions on Add/Remove content screen.

  • It will not be possible to save a search with certain criteria

Ability to view users with active Work assignments during delete operation

Available from

1804 (approximately April 2018)

Rollout pace

Full rollout - users will have immediate visibility as a result of upgrade

Delete work assignments feature available through Assign Questions → Load Search screen, does not allow to delete a saved search with multiple work assignments, which is correct. It also does not display the users with multiple work assignments, leading to more time expense in finding users having that assignment.

The change will make it possible to view users with multiple work for the search which user is trying to delete on the Load Search screen.
