Point and Click Questions requires the examinee to interact with an image in order to provide a response.
From Develop Questions → Write Item, click Write Question. In the Write Question page, select Point and Click from the Question Type dropdown list.
For Point and Click Questions, the examinee is asked to click on an area or point of the image, corresponding to the information provided in the Question stem.
The Question author will specify one or more area(s)/point(s) on the image to identify a correct response. ExamDeveloper provides an interface for users to create the Questions. How they are presented to the examinee depends on the Assessment Driver used to deliver the Exam. An Assessment Driver is software owned by a test delivery provider used to present Questions to examinees.
Each test delivery company has their own Assessment Driver which takes Exam content, displays it to examinees, and scores their responses. While this is relevant for all types of Questions, this is especially important to consider when using the Point and Click Question type. Many companies have limitations on their support for this type of Question, so it is very important to check with your test delivery provider about their level of support for this type of Question before using them on Exams they deliver on your behalf.
The Point and Click Question editor requires the Flash plug-in version 10 or later to be installed in the user's browser. If you do not see the shape editor shown below, you need to install the latest version of Adobe Flash on your computer.
When Numeric (1, 2, 3) is selected for the Default option labels setting on the Questions tab of the Project's Configuration page, a message box will be displayed as shown below:
|Please visit the Language-related features in Questions page to learn about the Language Code dropdown.|
Weights affect the examinee’s score for a Question. If weights are assigned to individual Answer Options, then they affect the total score of a Question depending on which (and how many) Answer Options are answered correctly or incorrectly. Assigning weights is optional and can be done via the Weight dropdown.
You can assign custom weights to individual Answer Options by selecting Option from the dropdown. A Weight text box appears next to the Answer Options, where you can enter the weight value for the respective Answer Options. The weight value is a decimal number. Weights assigned to incorrect Answer Options are ignored.
The candidate will score the specified weight value of the correctly answered Option(s), regardless of whether or not he/she may also incorrectly answer one or more Options. The maximum score of the Question is equal to the sum of the weight values for the correctly answered Options.
Item weight can be a positive decimal or integer value. It can range from ".001" to "9999".
To create Point and Click Questions:
Enter the labels that you would like to add to the image, one in each shape label field provided.
The default setting is four Shape Labels, but the writer might choose to add or remove pairs. The minimum number of allowable labels is two. The writer can click the add icon after the stem to add a label and delete icon to remove the corresponding label, if the Allow Differing Option Count setting on the Questions tab of the Project's Configuration page is checked.
|For Point and Click Questions it is not mandatory to define the label text, although it may be useful for illustration purposes. The Label text will not be visible to the examinee.|
The Label text can be of unlimited length unlike the 50-character limit enforced in previous versions of ExamDeveloper.
Select the checkboxes for the correct shape label field(s). Leave the checkboxes for the incorrect shape labels as unchecked.
In a Hot Spot item that is exported for the Athena test driver, the maximum number of clicks that the candidate will be able to select will be equal to the number of correct labels set on the item.
ExamDeveloper provides the tool to be able to create these Question types. It is important that the users realize while creating the Question, that this is not necessarily what examinees will get to view. Rather, the examinee interface is dependent on the Assessment Driver that is used, and can vary between delivery vendors.
For Point and Click Questions Stem, the Asset Manager function is not available.
The minimum number of shapes required is one.
The shapes must be drawn within the boundaries of the image.
For more details on attaching an image, refer to Uploading an Asset.
A user can click on Submit on Behalf of dropdown control and select one of the user names in the list to submit a Question on behalf of the selected user. The user list contains names of users enabled in the current Project, except the user who has logged in and is viewing the list. The list is displayed in ascending order by last name, first name, and user name. Once you click on the Submit button, the Question will save to the Draft mode and will not list show for current user.
Submit on Behalf of dropdown is not available at the time of Modify Question.
Click the Check Spelling link to check spellings for text in Stem and Options. The spellings are checked first against the in-built or installed dictionary and then against the words specified for exclusion on the Dictionary tab of your Project's settings.
Keep in mind that in order for users to be able to write this type of Question, it must be enabled on the Questions tab of the Project's Configuration page. From Manage → Settings → Configuration → Questions → Allow Question types, select Point And Click from the list and click Update. If you do not see this type of Question in the list, please contact your Project Manager to change the Project settings.
